GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund Application Guidance Notes

For maximum grants up to £200

Please be aware that applicants who have an outstanding End of Grant Form from a previous GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund application, will be unable to submit any new application for funding until you have returned the information requested.

Please read this information carefully before completing the application form.

What fund are you applying to?

The GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund has been developed in partnership with GMPA and Ask Goodman to support talented athletes in Greater Manchester to access high quality coaching to enable them to fulfil their potential.

The Fund is open to those athletes who have reached regional or national honours and who have the potential to progress further with elite coaching.

To be eligible you must be aged 25 or under, reside in Greater Manchester and in need of financial assistance to help you achieve your full potential.

Applications must be authorised by a nominated member of your local Sports Development Team or the appropriate National Governing body representative (this person must be employed by the recognised NGB for your sport).

Who can apply?

This application pack can be used by athletes living in one of the following boroughs BOLTON, BURY, MANCHESTER, OLDHAM, ROCHDALE, SALFORD, STOCKPORT, TAMESIDE, TRAFFORD and WIGAN

How much can you apply for?

The maximum grant request that will be considered is £200. This is the limit per individual per year (April to March).

Before any further applications can be considered, you must have satisfactorily completed and returned an End of Grant form.

What we CAN and CANNOT fund

The GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund is available to fund coaching fees incurred by talented young athletes to access elite coaching. Elite coaching is defined as a coach qualified as a level 3 coach or recognised by the sports national governing body as coaching at an elite level.

Prority is given to applicants that:

· Are struggling to reach their potential due to a lack of financial support.

· Do not have access to other sources of funding.

Who and what cannot be funded?

· Costs relating to gym memberships or regular club training costs

· Costs relating to sports equipment

· Costs relating to food, refreshments or enhancements i.e. supplements

· Athletes living outside the Greater Manchester area

· Retrospective Grants – (coaching that has already taken place)

· More than one application at any one time

How to complete the Application Form

Please complete all sections of the application form, even if you are enclosing supporting or corresponding information, as this will speed up the assessment process. If your application is incomplete this will delay the processing of your application and may invalidate you application. Please remember for applicants under the age of 18, the application form will also need to be signed by a parent/guardian.

About You

Please give all your contact details accurately as we aim to keep our records as complete as possible. We often try and communicate via the telephone and email to ensure the swift progress of your request. (If there are certain times in the day when it would be best to contact you, please indicate these.)

About Your Sport

Please complete all details as accurately as possible. We are keen to hear about your successes but please ensure you clarify who you were representing and at what competition. Please explain how accessing this elite coaching will help your development and what you hope to achieve in the next two years.

Financial Need

The GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund was established to support talented sport performers in securing the services of elite coaches. To this end, panel prioritises funding to those applicants who can demonstrate that financial pressures are limiting their ability to access these opportunities.

Coaching

Please ensure this section is completed by the coach who will be delivering the elite coaching you are applying for funding to access. Please explain the activity that will be coached in the sessions and costs associated with sessions (if the overall cost of sessions identified is more than £200 please identify what the funds applied for will cover.

Authorisation

Timescale

Please be realistic about the speed at which we can provide you with a decision. We will try to inform you of a decision within 10 working days of the panel which considers your application.

However, we have to adhere to agreed procedures with our donors and therefore you need to take this period into account when planning your activity and apply well in advance.

IMPORTANT: We can only process your request once all the required information has been received.

What Happens Next?

1. Return your completed application form GreaterSport.

2. Your application will be checked to make sure your request fits the funding criteria.

3. We will contact you to confirm receipt of your application & advise if further information is required, or we will confirm the date that your application will be submitted to a panel.

4. Your application will be passed on to panel for consideration. The panel will decide if your request can be funded.

5. We will then contact you to advise you on the panel’s decision and explain the process for claiming the grant.
